Баден-Баден

Baden-Baden’s historic spa landscape is part of the Great Spa Towns of Europe, inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 2021. The Lichtentaler Allee follows the River Oos between the town centre and Lichtenthal Abbey, linking gardens with cultural buildings. Along this route stand the Museum Frieder Burda, designed by Richard Meier, the Staatliche Kunsthalle and the city museum. The Kurhaus and its colonnades form another focal point of the resort.

The Festspielhaus adds a major modern performance venue to this setting. Opened in 1998, it has an auditorium with approximately 2,500 seats and presents opera, concerts, ballet, jazz and musical theatre. The combination of landscaped promenades, museums and a large performing-arts programme gives Baden-Baden a cultural life that extends well beyond the historic practice of taking the waters.
