Clinton Township's Macomb Center for the Performing Arts grew from a smaller theatrical experiment. A barn dating from 1924 was converted into a theatre in 1969 and remained in use until 1977. The larger performing arts centre opened on 7 November 1982, providing a stage and orchestral shell within a 1,271-seat auditorium. A second, more intimate performance space complemented the main hall. This development gave Macomb Community College and the surrounding area a venue capable of receiving visiting performers while supporting educational activity. Its history follows the growth of an audience and an institution from an adapted building to a purpose-built cultural facility.
