Heidesheim tends vines between Mainz and the Rhine's great bend. The Rheinhessen village — since 2019 formally a district of Ingelheim am Rhein, a change the archive should carry — lives the region's classic economy: Riesling and Burgunder parcels on the gentle slopes, asparagus and orchards on the sandy flats toward the river, wine estates pouring in their courtyards through the warm months, and the Selz plateau's open horizons that made Rheinhessen the "land of a thousand hills".

Its oldest treasure stands modestly in the cemetery: the chapel of St George, whose masonry reaches deep into the early Middle Ages — among the most venerable sacred buildings of the region, a plain witness from the age when the emperors held court at neighbouring Ingelheim, whose reconstructed Carolingian palace precinct of Charlemagne lies a few minutes away and lends the whole neighbourhood its imperial echo.

Daily life is comfortably Rhine-Hessian: the S-Bahn and autobahn put Mainz's cathedral city and Wiesbaden within a quarter-hour, Bingen and the romantic gorge's gateway lie just downstream, and the Rheinterrassen cycle route passes the village vineyards. Federweisser in autumn, blossom in April, Charlemagne over the fence: Heidesheim is Rheinhessen in domestic format — and, for the workbook, now writes its address as Ingelheim.
