Seoul runs six centuries of capital at broadband speed. The Joseon dynasty planted five palaces here from 1394 — Gyeongbokgung's throne halls stage the changing of the guard beneath Bugaksan's granite — and King Sejong, whose statue presides over Gwanghwamun square, gave the language its own alphabet in 1443: hangul, the world's most rationally designed script, celebrated with a national holiday. Around the palaces the metropolis conducts its famous double life — hanok lanes and neon canyons, temple bells and 5G, kimchi aged in museums and served in basements — while the Han river carries the evening's picnics and the skyline's reflections.
The city's classical flagship stands south of the river: the Seoul Arts Center at Umyeon hill — the venue documented in the concert record — Korea's national arts complex, whose Concert Hall, Opera House and calligraphy museum make it the peninsula's principal address for the symphonic and operatic seasons, the Seoul Philharmonic and the touring world sharing its stages with the national companies. Beyond it, the city's cultural exports need no introduction — the K-prefix conquered the century's soundtrack — but the deeper point stands: a capital that invented its own alphabet was never going to be casual about programming. Seoul rehearses constantly, performs continuously, and reads everything.
