The Augusta Traiana forum in central Stara Zagora preserves part of the Roman city founded under Emperor Trajan. The archaeological complex covers approximately 7,000 square metres and includes a stone-paved square, an auditorium with nine tiers of seats, the western gate, fortification walls, the remains of public baths and part of the decumanus maximus. The surviving structures include baths built in the second century and fortifications from both the Roman and late antique periods. The site is also used for productions by Stara Zagora Opera, concerts and outdoor festivals.
