Built for the 2002 Landesgartenschau out of the old Baumgarten at the western end of the Philippsruhe palace park, the open-air stage takes the form of a semicircular earth bank raised around the sandstone golden staircase in 2000. It holds 1,356 seated or 2,700 standing, and a tent can be drawn over the whole of it while leaving the sides open. The Brüder Grimm Festspiele occupy it from May to July; opera, cabaret and touring concerts follow until the end of September.
