The Auditorio Fabio Lozano is part of the Universidad de Bogotá Jorge Tadeo Lozano in Bogotá's historic centre. Its 608-seat auditorium is made available to the city and outside organisations for artistic, cultural and musical events. It serves as a second performance base for the Orquesta Filarmónica de Bogotá, giving the university venue an established role in the capital's orchestral life. Its programme also includes chamber recitals and academic presentations. The auditorium brings these public activities into the university's cultural facilities, with performances ranging from small instrumental ensembles to orchestral concerts. It is therefore both a university resource and a regularly used venue for Bogotá's musicians. In the streets below Bogotá's colonial quarter, the Universidad de Bogotá Jorge Tadeo Lozano keeps its concert auditorium on the central campus. It is a university room rather than a civic one, serving lectures, ceremonies and graduations as readily as music, but the city's chamber and orchestral series have long used it, and French repertoire has found a place in its programmes. Halls of this kind carry much of the concert life of Latin American capitals, where universities rather than municipalities have often been the patrons.
