Bergen Performing Arts Center occupies a theatre in Englewood, New Jersey, that opened as the Englewood Plaza on 22 November 1926. Initially presenting vaudeville and films, the building later became the John Harms Center, reopening in October 1976 with a recital by pianist Lazar Berman. Harms, an organist and teacher, had worked with local residents to return the dormant cinema to live performance. Financial difficulties brought another closure in 2003, followed by a community-led reopening as bergenPAC in autumn 2004. Its activity combines a varied public performance programme with arts education. The former Bennett Studios building subsequently became home to its Performing Arts School.
