Bulgaria's cultural mission in Berlin opened on 16 January 1962 at Friedrichstraße 62, under the cultural and scientific agreement signed with East Germany in 1958. Around 1972 it moved to Unter den Linden 10 — a building with a theatre, a cinema hall, a gallery and a shop — and closed there in July 1992; it reopened on 7 January 1993 at Leipziger Straße 114–115, where it remains, and a new intergovernmental agreement followed in March 1995. Film screenings, exhibitions, readings and concerts make up the programme, and the institute belongs to EUNIC.
