Хор на Бургаската опера

The mixed chorus of State Opera Burgas was formed in 1972, when the opera became a state musical institution. It developed within a company whose amateur predecessor had begun performing in 1955. The chorus participates in operas, operettas and productions for children, working alongside the theatre's soloists, orchestra and ballet. This combination of choral and staged work places it within the resident artistic forces of the Burgas opera company, rather than as a separate concert choir. Burgas acquired a professional mixed opera chorus in 1972, the year its opera company was taken into state hands after seventeen seasons as an amateur troupe that had opened with La traviata in June 1955. The chorus belongs to the Opera and Philharmonic Society of Burgas, sharing a house with an orchestra that dates from 1947, and its work runs across opera, operetta and productions for children rather than concert repertoire alone.
