C. Y. Stephens Auditorium at Iowa State University was built between 1966 and 1969 as part of the Iowa State Center. Its architects were Crites & McConnell and Brooks-Borg & Skiles, with acoustic consultation by Paul S. Veneklasen & Associates. The hall takes its name from Clifford Y. Stephens, a dairy-industry entrepreneur and Iowa State graduate who led the fundraising campaign and pledged a million dollars to the centre. A large Japanese-made stage curtain was donated by J. W. Fisher. In 2004 the Iowa chapter of the American Institute of Architects selected the auditorium as its Building of the Century, recognising its architectural achievement and wider social impact.
