Народно читалище „Алеко Константинов 1884“ – Провадия

The Aleko Konstantinov 1884 community cultural centre in Provadia combines a public performance hall with library, educational and amateur-arts activities. Its facilities support concerts, theatre, readings, meetings and film screenings, including programmes for children. The centre houses the Tsoncho Rodev Library and Svetoslav Obretenov Children’s Music School and supports the Usmivka ballet group. As a non-profit community association, it also provides access to information, vocational learning and opportunities for local residents to participate in cultural life. Provadia's reading society carries the name of Aleko Konstantinov, the writer who gave Bulgarian literature its most uncomfortable comic character and Bulgarian hiking its first organised ascent. Like every chitalishte it keeps a library, rehearsal rooms and classes for children; and its hall is where this small town in the Varna hinterland receives the theatre and music that come to it from outside.
