Congress Centrum Ulm stands on the Danube beside the Maritim Hotel. Its principal auditorium, the Einsteinsaal, combines stalls, a gallery and boxes and can seat 1,487 in theatre configuration. Movable stage platforms and a fore-stage that can serve as an orchestra pit allow the room to accommodate concerts as well as conferences and banquets. Wood and plaster surfaces, an asymmetrical plan and adjustable connections to the foyer shape the main interior. The complex also includes smaller meeting spaces and a riverside Gartensaal, whose glazed façade looks towards the Danube and Neu-Ulm. Opened in September 1993 as the Saalbau of Ulm's city-quality programme, the centre has been run from the first day by the Maritim hotel company, whose hotel adjoins it. The Einstein Saal is the concert room — a stage, an orchestra pit and up to 1,487 places, 1,173 of them in rows. Two smaller halls, the Kepler Saal and the Gartensaal, take 320 and 81. Congresses, company events and concert galas share the same building.
