The Professional Conservatory of Music in Ourense opened in 1957, initially teaching piano, violin, singing, music theory and solfège in premises on the Plaza Mayor. Its promoters included pianist Antonio Iglesias, Isidoro Guede and organist Antonio Jaunsarás. Following years in different locations, the conservatory obtained a purpose-built home in 1997. Its teaching expanded from the initial small group of subjects to orchestral instruments and other specialisms. A mechanical-action organ acquired in 2007 added a resource for formal organ study, linking the school with a longstanding regional church-music tradition.
