The Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, New Jersey, opened in 1926 as Reade’s Carlton. The historic auditorium later took the name of the jazz musician Count Basie, who had grown up nearby and returned for a homecoming performance in 1961. Renamed in his honour in 1984, the venue developed into a nonprofit organisation combining entertainment with arts education. Expansion brought the broader identity Count Basie Center for the Arts, together with a second performance space, The Vogel, and dedicated educational facilities. The original theatre remains the historic core of a complex that connects touring performance, local participation and the musical heritage of Red Bank.
