Културен център „Де Варанде“

Named after the park by the castle whose green it borders, the Warande opened in Turnhout on 28 October 1972, from a design commissioned a decade earlier from Vanhout, Wauters and Schoeters. Its theatre followed in October 1977. A second, rougher hall for young people's music and experimental theatre, the KUUB, was added in 2005 to a competition-winning design by Macken & Macken, and a rebuilding in 2013 gave the complex new exhibition space and a new entrance. The theatre itself was closed from 2016 and reopened in September 2018 after a thorough restoration. Between them the halls cover most of what the Kempen region asks of a single house — chamber music, touring opera and drama, exhibitions, and a café that keeps the building occupied on nights when nothing is playing.
