The name belongs to Dobrotitsa, the fourteenth-century despot whose principality on the Black Sea coast gave the town of Dobrich its own name. The hall is a municipal sports arena, and like most such buildings in provincial Bulgaria it earns a second living as the largest stage in the district: touring companies bring dance, drama and opera here because nothing else in Dobrich will hold the audience.
