Founded by a group of enthusiasts in 1921 and housed since 1925 in a building raised with public donations and municipal money, the Haskovo theatre absorbed the town's puppet company in 2000 and has worked since then as a producing centre financed jointly by the state and the city. Its two rooms seat 290 and 110. More than thirty Bulgarian plays have had their first performance on that stage, four to six new drama and puppet productions are mounted each season, and touring operetta uses the large hall.
