Oscar Niemeyer designed every building on the site, marquee included, and for years it was known as the Funarte cultural complex of Brasília. The name changed in 2022, when the Union of Ibero-American Capital Cities named Brasília its capital of cultures. Four spaces make up the ensemble: the Teatro Plínio Marcos, the Sala Cássia Eller, the Fayga Ostrower gallery and the open Espaço Marquise. The whole is protected as heritage at both district and federal level.
