Еслингер Бург

The Esslinger Burg is the surviving northern stronghold of Esslingen am Neckar’s medieval town defences. First mentioned in 1314, it was expanded between 1519 and 1531. The Dicke Turm dates from 1527, although its distinctive cap was added in 1887; the tower and grounds were restored in 1976–77. The fortifications stand above the old town and vineyards, with views across the Neckar valley. Within them, the Burgplatz combines landscaped gardens with open public space. Summer programming includes outdoor cinema and classical, jazz and rock concerts, extending the use of the former defensive site into the city’s cultural life.
