Reutlingen's grammar school carries the name of the economist Friedrich List, born in the town in 1789, whose arguments for a German customs union and a national railway network made him one of its better-known sons. Like most Swabian schools of its size, it keeps an assembly hall with a platform at one end, and that hall does double duty: school music-making during term, and concerts given for the town by visiting players.
