Arlekino is a children's vocal group founded in 2015 at the Saglasie 1869 community centre in Pleven. Led by Violeta Boyanova, it trains school-age singers in pop and rock repertoire, solo performance, stage presentation and microphone technique. The group has also participated in Puccini's La bohème, appearing with the Pleven Philharmonic and the Gena Dimitrova Municipal Choir at the opening of the thirty-first Katya Popova International Music Festival. Its recorded work includes an album of thirteen songs; one of them, Dayte ni vreme, was included in a Bulgarian music textbook for fifth-grade pupils. Children's vocal groups hold a settled place in Bulgarian musical education, and Harlequin is one of Pleven's. Its singers are of school age, and its work runs from the choral repertoire taught in the country's music schools to the children's parts that opera productions call for — which is how ensembles of this kind come to stand beside professional companies on a theatre stage.
