A loggia is a room only half indoors. This one is an open colonnaded terrace within planted grounds, used in warm weather for chamber music and for ceremonies rather than built for either; its acoustic is whatever the evening supplies, and its scale suits a handful of string players and an audience seated among the beds. Venues of this sort belong to the history of gardens quite as much as to the history of music.
