Carlos Amarante did not live to see this church finished; he is buried inside it. The Igreja da Trindade rose slowly through the first decades of the nineteenth century and opened for worship on 5 June 1841, on the square behind what is now Porto's city hall. In one of its chapels hangs a large panel by José de Brito showing the Baptism of Christ. The building is classified a Monument of Public Interest.
