Whitewater is a small Wisconsin town with a state university at its centre, and the Irvin L. Young Auditorium is that university's principal stage. Named, as such American halls generally are, for the benefactor who made it possible, it carries an academic season and a public one simultaneously, and for a good stretch of southern Wisconsin it is the nearest place to hear a staged opera at all. The university now directs visitors to The Young Performing Arts Center at 930 West Main Street.
