Opened in 1897 and paid for by endowments from the manufacturer Julius Spohn and other citizens, the building on the Wilhelmstraße was designed by the Viennese practice Fellner & Helmer in the historicist manner and stands largely as it was built. With 574 seats it is the largest theatre in Ravensburg and the only historic theatre building left in Württemberg's Upper Swabia; its surviving stock of painted scenery is protected along with the house itself, listed since 1988. Touring theatre, concerts and congresses use it.
