Rosenheim stands on the Inn where the river leaves the Alps for the Bavarian plain, a salt and trading town with a long appetite for touring theatre. Its culture and congress centre — the KU'KO, as the town calls it — carries that traffic: conferences by day, concerts and staged productions by night. Verdi's Aida has been given there, on the scale that touring opera brings to provincial Germany. The building belongs to the town rather than to any resident ensemble. The Kultur+Kongress Zentrum Rosenheim, usually abbreviated KU'KO, is a multipurpose venue for concerts, theatre, congresses and exhibitions. Saal Bayern accommodates approximately 1,100 people in row seating, or up to 1,600 when combined with the foyer. Smaller spaces include Saal Chiemgau and the divisible Saal Rosenheim, supported by reception and conference foyers.
