Where the Ahr runs east towards the Rhine, Bad Neuenahr laid out a Kurpark around its mineral springs in the nineteenth century, and the park's open-air stage has carried the town's summer music ever since — operetta and popular opera above all. Verdi's La traviata and Kálmán's Die Csárdásfürstin have both been heard there. The flood that tore down the Ahr valley in July 2021 devastated the spa quarter, and its restoration has been the town's work ever since.
