Newlin Hall is the larger of the two theatres in Centre College's Norton Center for the Arts in Danville, Kentucky. The arts centre opened in 1973 and was designed by William Wesley Peters of the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation. Its architecture uses recurring hexagonal forms and integrated performance, exhibition and teaching spaces. Newlin Hall seats 1,476 and presents touring orchestras, theatre, dance and other professional performances, while also accommodating major college occasions. It is distinct from the smaller Weisiger Theatre within the same complex. Centre College, in the small Kentucky town of Danville, built a performing-arts centre out of proportion to its size, and Newlin Hall is its large auditorium — the room that takes touring orchestras, opera and dance for a rural county that would otherwise have to drive to Louisville or Lexington for them. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro has been staged there, sung by a touring company on a platform more often occupied by symphonic programmes.
