Haifa's open-air concert life belongs to the summer. The municipality has been putting on performances at the acoustic stage in Gan HaEm, the park on Sderot HaNasi in Central Carmel next to the zoo, since the 1950s, facing a large lawn; the park was named by mayor Abba Hushi. The Haifa Symphony Orchestra, a private body until the city took it into the municipal company Ethos in 2004, has its indoor home at the Rappaport Center auditorium but plays outdoors and in schools as well.
