Granada's Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos stands on Paseo del Violón beside the River Genil. Designed by Juan Daniel Fullaondo, María Jesús Muñoz Pardo and José Ibáñez Berbel, it was inaugurated on 19 April 1992. The complex combines conference and exhibition facilities with spaces for concerts and staged performances. Its largest auditorium, named after Federico García Lorca, accommodates approximately 2,000 in theatre configuration; the smaller Manuel de Falla auditorium provides a separate performance and meeting space. On the Paseo del Violón, beside the Genil and within sight of the Sierra Nevada, Granada's congress centre has run for more than three decades as the city's largest modern venue. Its Auditorio Federico García Lorca seats around two thousand, and the poet's name is not decoration: Granada was his city, and the hall that carries it has taken opera and symphonic concerts alongside the medical congresses and trade fairs that pay for the building.
