Eau Claire sits at the confluence of two rivers in western Wisconsin and sustains a musical life out of proportion to its population, largely through its university and its summer festivals. The Phillips theatre takes concerts and staged productions, opera among them: Verdi's Rigoletto has been performed there. Touring circuits across the upper Midwest rarely reach the national press, and rooms like this one are where that circuit actually lands.
