The Porter Center for the Performing Arts is Brevard College's concert and theatre complex in North Carolina. Its Scott Concert Hall seats 700, with 500 places on the main floor and 200 in the balcony, and has a stage large enough for a full symphony orchestra. The Kirkpatrick-Coleman organ, built by Jaeckel, contains 3,539 pipes in sixty-nine ranks and is played from three manuals. A black-box theatre provides a separate setting for smaller productions. College recitals and theatrical work share the centre with community performances, including those of the Brevard Philharmonic, the community band and the Transylvania Choral Society. Brevard is a small town in the mountains of western North Carolina with an unusual concentration of music for its size: the summer festival and school of the Brevard Music Center draw students and audiences from across the country. The Porter Center, the concert hall and theatre of Brevard College, carries part of that load through the rest of the year, with college productions, recitals and visiting companies — Carmen among the operas staged there.
