Civic business and music share the old town hall on the Hauptplatz in Linz, one of the oldest buildings in the centre of the city, rebuilt and remodelled repeatedly across the centuries and still the seat of the municipality. Its ceremonial hall is used for receptions and civic occasions and, between them, for concerts on a scale the room can hold: Beethoven's Fourth Symphony has been played in it.
