Brașov's opera company works at the foot of Tâmpa, in a Transylvanian city of Saxon foundation whose choral and instrumental traditions are older than Romania itself. The hall is the company's own stage, carrying a repertory of opera and ballet through the season for an audience that includes a good many visitors to the mountains; Verdi's Don Carlos has been among the works staged there.
