Wiesbaden keeps two palaces from its century as capital of the Duchy of Nassau. The Stadtschloss on the Schlossplatz, built between 1837 and 1841 as the ducal town residence, has housed the Hessian parliament since the Land was constituted after the Second World War; downstream on the Rhine, Biebrich Palace spreads its long Baroque wings along the bank. Both stand in a spa city where hot springs, a Kurhaus and a season of visitors made concert-going a civic habit early.
