The auditorium behind the former Stations Koffijhuis on the Zuideinde was finished in 1886 in Viennese style and is the oldest surviving theatre hall in Drenthe; it was given monument status in 2023. It was built by Lammigje Ogterop-Worst, widow of the innkeeper Gerhardus Bernardus Ogterop and the first woman in the Netherlands to run a theatre. Societies, touring companies and local associations used the room from the start. The family sold up in 1953 and the municipality of Meppel bought the complex in 1968.
