Шанхайска консерватория

Shanghai Conservatory of Music opened on 27 November 1927, founded by Cai Yuanpei and Xiao Youmei as the National Conservatory of Music. It adopted its present name in 1956. The institution combines higher musical education with affiliated elementary and secondary schooling, creating a continuous route of specialist training. Its disciplines include composition, conducting, vocal and instrumental performance, musicology and music education, alongside recording and digital arts. Research, artistic production and postgraduate study form part of its work, supported by exchanges with music institutions abroad. The conservatory's history records the development of professional music education in China from its early twentieth-century foundations to a broader range of contemporary musical practices.
