Founded in 2002, the Sichuan Symphony Orchestra became the leading professional symphonic ensemble of China's south-west, working from Chengdu with the backing of the province. Its seasons set the European repertoire beside Chinese orchestral writing, commissioned scores included, and it has taken part in the large collaborative projects that Chinese orchestras have mounted jointly in recent years. In 2024 it moved into a hall of its own, the Sichuan Symphony Hall within the provincial arts centre.
