Sofia's orchestral tradition runs back to 1893, when the first symphony orchestra in the city was founded — the line from which the Sofia Philharmonic descends — and the capital has supported a variety of smaller ensembles alongside it since. Sinfonietta Sofia works at chamber scale, the size at which Classical concertos and the string repertoire speak most clearly, drawing on the unusually deep pool of players trained in the Bulgarian conservatories.
