The hall anchors the new town centre that grew up between the two village cores of Germering, west of Munich, and shares its building with the municipal library. Eleven rooms are let out; the Orlandosaal covers 880 square metres and takes 1,100 seated or 1,500 standing, the Amadeussaal 262, the small Nachtasyl eighty. The programme is deliberately cheap for what it is — opera and classical concerts, jazz, cabaret, dance, children's series — and the house has its own subscription strands. Stadthalle Germering opened in 1993 with a production of Verdi's Aida directed by Günter Mayr. Ten years later, Mayr returned to stage Smetana's The Bartered Bride for the venue's anniversary, extending its record of locally mounted opera.
