Where the Lahn joins the Rhine, beneath the wooded hills of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley, Lahnstein keeps its Stadthalle as the meeting point of a town formed from two older settlements on either side of the river mouth. Concerts, balls, carnival and civic assemblies fill its calendar, and the town's position on the most heavily travelled stretch of the Rhine brings visiting programmes to it through the year.
