Stadtallendorf, east of Marburg in northern Hesse, owes its modern shape to wartime industry and to the settlement that followed it, and the Stadthalle belongs to the civic infrastructure built for that new population. Without a theatre of its own, the town uses the hall as concert room, assembly space and festival venue in turn; touring musical programmes reach the district through it, and little else.
