Viechtach's Stadtplatz is the central square of a Lower Bavarian market town in the Bavarian Forest, a state-recognised climatic spa set on a bend of the Schwarzer Regen at the foot of the Pfahl ridge. Listed houses line it, and the Nostalgie-Haus, a museum of several thousand objects from the past centuries with a large garden behind it, opens directly onto the square. In summer the square doubles as the town's open-air stage: a full staging of Aida was played on it in July 2009.
