Built in 1973 and owned by the town of Ratingen, the theatre has 613 seats between stalls and circle and a stage of about 160 square metres, and works without a company of its own. Around eighty events a year were booked in: music theatre, dance, drama, children's theatre, concerts, readings, cabaret and variety. The house has been closed since April 2023 for a full refurbishment — technical systems, seating, acoustics, step-free access — and the town's cultural programme has moved meanwhile to the Stadthalle and other rooms.
