The Teatro Alkazar in Plasencia began as a privately owned cinema-theatre before being acquired by the municipality. Its traditional auditorium includes stalls, side boxes and upper seating, with a total capacity of more than 740. The theatre presents two main performing-arts seasons, from January to June and from September to December. An old projector displayed behind glass in the facade recalls its cinema history. Plasencia's share of the Operisima autumn tour of Spain was a single evening: Bizet's Carmen at the Teatro Alkazar on 3 November 2013.
