Театро Сервантес

A fire in 1869 destroyed the theatre that had stood on this site, and Málaga replaced it within the year: Gerónimo Cuervo's new house opened in 1870, carrying a ceiling by Bernardo Ferrándiz and Antonio Muñoz Degrain — nineteen metres by sixteen and a half — in which the city's commerce, industry and landmarks are set out as allegory instead of the usual muses. The building later declined, was rehabilitated from 1985, and came back into use with about 1,200 seats. It is now Málaga's chief stage: home of the city's film festival, and the hall in which the Orquesta Filarmónica de Málaga gives its concert season.
