The Gaztambide dates from 1936, a moment when Tudela had only one theatre left: the Novedades had burned down in 1927 and the Principal was pulled down in 1931. It carries the name of Joaquín Gaztambide, the zarzuela composer born in the town. Tudela's council bought the building in January 1995 and has run it since as the main hall of this city on the Ebro, and it is one of the regular stages of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Navarra. The Teatro Gaztambide is one of Tudela’s principal venues for live performance.
