Since 1996 the city's stage has been the house on Odenkirchener Straße in Rheydt — a former Stadthalle remodelled and reopened on 19 November 1984 as the Opernhaus Mönchengladbach with Berg's Lulu, which took over the drama as well when the 1959 Stadttheater on Hindenburgstraße was sold. It is played by Theater Krefeld und Mönchengladbach, the joint company the two cities set up by treaty in 1950, in four divisions: drama, music theatre, ballet and concerts by the Niederrheinische Sinfoniker.
