The Théâtre de Beaulieu opened in Lausanne in 1954 as part of the Beaulieu exhibition and congress complex. It is a presenting theatre used by dance companies, orchestras and other visiting productions. A renovation carried out between 2019 and 2022 renewed the auditorium and public areas while retaining elements of the historic interior, including its Art Deco chandelier. The renovated theatre has 1,600 seats. Its regular users include Béjart Ballet Lausanne, the Prix de Lausanne, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne. Among the largest theatres in Switzerland, the Beaulieu belongs to the exhibition complex of the same name in the north of Lausanne and was built in the 1950s to a scale few Swiss cities attempt. Maurice Béjart moved his company from Brussels to Lausanne in 1987, and the Béjart Ballet has danced on this stage since. The hall took the Eurovision Song Contest in 1989 and continues to receive large-scale dance, touring opera and orchestral concerts.
